Course Description

Botany is a branch of basic science that deals with study of structure, function, development, genetics, classification, evolution, distribution, uses and economic importance of plants.

Course Learning Outcomes

After completing B.Sc. in Botany, students will be able to:

  • Identify major groups of plants and differentiate characteristics of higher order and lower order plants
  • Explain the adaptation, evolution and genetic diversity of plants on earth
  • Understand and explain plant morphology, anatomy, physiology, metabolism, genome and how its function is influenced at the cellular, tissue and organ level
  • Understand the impact of human activities on the plant kingdom and thus, its effect on the ecosystem and the economic importance of various plant groups and how they affect human life and GDP of the nation
  • Understand the ethno botanical importance of endemic species
  • Develop ways to increase agricultural production through tissue culture, vertical farming, etc. especially when agricultural land is being reduced day by day
  • Demonstrate the experimental techniques pertaining to the subject and express their findings in verbal, written and electronic formats
